For January planted tomato crops, the time around first harvest, and also side-shoots coming into pick, is an important period to check the balance between major nutrients in hydroponic systems.
Even more important is the plant demand for nutrients, such as potassium, during period of high fruit loading. This may lead to imbalances between potassium and nitrate-nitrogen, calcium and magnesium. The nutritional solution in the rootzone may change rapidly at these points, especially if nutrient recirculation is in operation. Regular analysis of nutrient solutions is always to be recommended in hydroponics.
